If you are interested in pushing the limits of integrated photonics devices and revolutionizing their applications through hardware innovation, we are looking for you to join HyperLight’s growing team as an Integrated Photonics Research Scientist, where you will work directly with a customer facing team to commercialize state-of-the-art photonics research. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who enjoy problem solving and will thrive in a collaborative environment.

At HyperLight, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Spearhead internal research effort to deliver best-in-class integrated electro-optic devices.
  • Utilize electromagnetic simulations tools to push the limits of performance of integrated devices.
  • Lead the introduction of new photonic functionalities in thin-film lithium niobate to serve a diverse customer base ranging from test and measurement to aerospace and quantum systems companies.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing team to translate cutting edge research in integrated photonics into products.
  • Take a leadership role in organizing and performing necessary optical and electrical measurements to evaluate the performance of fabricated chips for iterative device improvement.
  • Communicate and summarize photonics device research with leadership and all divisions of the company to align company level product development and R&D priorities.

Desired qualification:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Photonics, or related fields or Minimum of 5+ years of integrated photonics related experience (relevant experience during graduate studies is counted).
  • Demonstrated understanding of electromagnetic theory and related principles.
  • Expert at photonic simulation tools based on FDTD and FEM.
  • Experience building optical measurement setups and performing optical alignment/coupling.
  • Familiarity working with lasers and high-speed electronics such as fast photodiodes, oscilloscopes, Vector Network Analyzers, and Spectrum Analyzer.
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret experimental data.
  • Experience programming/scripting in Python.
  • Experience in fabrication is a plus.
  • Authorization to work in the US.
